It’s tempting to simplify a place to a few clever sayings. To land there, observe it with calm distance, form opinions based on meager traces of interaction. Sometimes, these assessments can be precise and intuitive. Many times the limits of language conspire against broad generalizations.

Top of mind is gentrification, economic exclusion and the fight for what is arguably a sacred ground.

As we face social and environmental turmoil, what traces will we leave?

Find or discover by investigation. Copy, reproduce, go over. It is a mark, an object, an indication of our existence. The evidence of passing time. In the moment too small to be accurately measured or assessed. Our traces, our trail leading us to this uncertain future. As we face social and environmental turmoil, what traces will we leave?

Warehouse 416 Art Opening Friday April 6th!

Almost ready for First Friday! @warehouse416 This show is about recognizing the strange and fading elements of our world through photography, sculpture and painting.

Beauty by decay, the incompleteness of the human form, fading structures and objects, once useful and now left stranded to time.

An acknowledgement of those things hidden in plain site, their own strange attraction calling out to us, inviting us to remember our past and ponder our future. #artshow#artopening #firstfriday #oaklandartists #oaklandartmurmur #photography #sculpture#paintings @beckajoni @kellypatrickdugan @joybusse

A walk in Tilden Park

After the heavy winter rains, tree bark and rocks are covered with lichen and moss. Saturated with water, the colors virtually glow as I walk by. Simultaneous erosion, decomposition and growth, creating magnificent artworks, no bigger than the palm of my hand.
